Working From Home

Even with more than 620 pages written by myself and contributors, I believe I have twice as much to go before I get anywhere near describing the Isle of Anglesey in all its majesty and historic frightfulness. Anecdotal local history is always best – even if not entirely true. Actually, especially if it’s not entirely true. 

And yet, all of this has been has been achieved with the barest, the most meagre knowledge of web design.

I'm misleading you a bit there. I do have some pretty good friends and colleagues at SBI! who go out of their way to help me.

Anglesey Hidden Gem was not intended to be an online e-business. It’s sort of gently developing that way as an evolution from my education and support from SBI! Solo Build It!.

I was wandering around inside the many Users’ Forums, found this and checked it out. It’s the Work from Home page from SBI! Have a look please, as it really got me thinking about using what I know and how I have started to use it to create a small e-business.

It might be of use to you if you’ve been thinking along the same lines. There a living to be made online with an e-business and why shouldn’t the good guys and girls have some of it for a change?

I Didn't Realise I Had The Traffic and Knowledge for Moving Forward

If you check Anglesey Hidden Gem on Google you’ll find that the majority of the pages I’ve written with the guidance of SBI! are in the Top 5 Search Results and most of the rest find themselves on the first page of Search Results.

I tried before to design a website using HTML and CSS programming. I’m not technically minded. To be honest with you, I was so intimidated before I got going that I never really got that little dream off the ground.

Yet here I am, heading for 650 pages on a website about Anglesey called (sensibly enough) Anglesey Hidden Gem whose pages are invariably in the Top 5 of Search Engines for most tourist information about Anglesey - especially the beaches.

Why Would You Want To Build Your Own Website?

My Answer: I just want to spend more time in my garden!

That really is my motivation. Being there means I’m not at a specific Elsewhere.

I want to slow down to do my writing and my gardening. Is that not a reasonable ambition? I want Peace and Quiet away from … horrible people and places.

I want to prepare for my future. I do not want to walk blindly into Retirement to live a poor quality of life subject to the whims of incompetent politicians and exchequers with a pension that will soon lose its value.

I want a to prepare for a happy Retirement. I'm not there yet, but at the rate they keep pushing up the retirement age I might never get there, unless I take control.

It makes sense to learn how to build a website and e-business that will furnish you with a regular extra income, even when you're in the garden. This is what it's about. Knowledge gives you a lot of power.

Specific Knowledge gives you a great deal more power.

Now then, how on earth does someone without any technical ability and with an almighty fear of failure in web design manage to do this?

One explanation is C-T-P-M, which is Content – Traffic – Pre-sell – Monetize.

You write good Content, which brings in Traffic, which allows you to Pre-sell whatever you presenting to the visitor and thereby get paid – Monetize!. That’s C-T-P-M.

There are two ways to build your own website, the wrong way and the right way.

Pretty obvious, I know. Did you know 99+% of online small businesses die within the first year. Of the rest many never, ever make it to the front page of Search Engine Results.
