Britannia Bridge - Two Fat Lions (one, anyway)

Britannia Bridge - Two Fat Lions (one, anyway)

Hi Wil

A few years ago I spent a couple of days in my daughter's caravan at Dafarn Rhos near Moelfre and one day decided to drive down and seek out the Britannia Bridge Lions.

On the way we stopped off to have lunch at Red Wharf Bay.

Whilst taking a photograph of one of the magnificent lions I sensed I was no longer alone and turned around to discover Matthew Richards from BBC Wales with his cameraman. They had come to film a piece about the Lions.

He asked would I mind chatting about the lions to camera.

I was totally unprepared, unscripted, and only a passing by holidaymaker.

It was filmed in one take and without any safety nets or make-up. But rest assured No Lions Were Harmed During The Filming

The manager of the nearby Carreg Mon Hotel was also filmed, adding a bit of glamour, as she is much more photogenic than me.

I came across the clip on the internet recently having not seen it for years. I am not allowed to submit a link to it as part of this blog but for the curious it can be found by typing campaign to move bridge lions? into Google.

The lions are Hidden Gems and worth seeking out.

But, if you do visit them, please think twice before talking to strangers or agreeing to be filmed if you have had a pint of lager with your lunch.

David

Dear David

Starting in Moelfre, lunch in Red Wharf Bay and then beholding the magnificence of the Britannia Bridge and Lions. Sounds like a perfect day to me.

I'd love to see the clip and I'm sure other readers agree. Just copy the link to me as text and I'll add it to add to your fame - or is that "Infamy, Infamy. They've got it in for me."

Thank you for getting in touch.

My best wishes to you

Wil
